Update History

  1. First concrete poured

CTV News Windsor reported on October 1, 2026 that the first concrete had been poured at the hospital site. Phase one, with EllisDon as construction manager, includes a three-storey education and administrative centre, a 700-vehicle parking garage and site infrastructure.

  2. Windsor-Essex site included in national cancer research funding

On September 24, 2026, Health Canada announced $80 million over four years for the Marathon of Hope Cancer Centres Network, to be matched by the Terry Fox Research Institute and participating institutions for a total of $160 million nationally. The University of Windsor and Windsor Regional Hospital, supported by WE-SPARK Health Institute, take part in the network as its first community hospital-based site in Canada. No amount specific to Windsor-Essex has been announced, and the funding supports precision oncology research rather than construction.

Investment Impact

The hospital is being developed within a broader area where municipal planning contemplates future residential, employment, commercial and institutional growth. Windsor is also investing in roads and infrastructure intended to support the hospital, NextStar, airport lands and further development in Sandwich South.

Jeremy’s Take

I've watched this area remain largely undeveloped while the hospital moved through years of planning. Now physical construction has started. What I'm watching isn't just the hospital building. I'm paying attention to what happens around it: roads, servicing, housing, commercial development, employment lands and the airport area. I wouldn't buy nearby based on an assumption that the hospital automatically increases property values.

Things to Watch

Construction milestones, surrounding land use approvals, housing development, commercial development, airport employment lands and infrastructure investment.
